1.
May I get a copy of my records?
Yes. Under the HIPPA law every patient (or their personal representative) has the right to access his/her health information by inspecting and/or obtaining a copy of the information contained in his/her health record. As we explain in our Notice of Privacy Practices we may refuse your request if your records include psychotherapy notes, information to be used in court proceedings, or covered by special laws.
2.
Why do I have to pay for copies of my records?
According to Kansas Senate Bill #119, Health Care Providers can condition providing copies upon receipt of a fee. The law allows the charging of a reasonable cost for supplies and labor.
