Geriatric Special Care Unit
The Geriatric Special Care Unit (SCU) at Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems is a geriatric inpatient behavioral health unit serving communities across Kansas and Nebraska. We are dedicated to assisting seniors, age 55 and older, in maximizing their ability to function independently, often significantly enhancing their quality of life. Will also accept younger individuals with special conditions.
As an inpatient subspecialty unit, our role is to evaluate and treat patients with the primary objective to return patients back to their primary care facility or the next stage of their care continuum. We focus on intensive inpatient care and behavioral programs designed to meet the diverse mental health needs of older adults.
A multidisciplinary treatment team consisting of registered nurses, social workers, and activity therapists work together to provide appropriate, high quality acute care for every patient. Each patient is monitored for physical problems which can be addressed while they are patients at SCU.
SCU offers quality, cost-effective healthcare for patients with depression, anxiety, mild to moderate psychosis, dementia, self-care deficits and other acute psychiatric conditions.
The Special Care Unit at MCHHS is operated by Quality Health Care of Beloit, LLC, a behavioral health management group that has been serving the behavioral health needs of elderly Kansans since 2000. As the largest provider of geriatric psychiatric care serving rural Kansas, Quality Health Care of Beloit, LLC is uniquely qualified to care for geriatric patients in an acute behavioral crisis.
