Geriatric Special Care Unit

The Geriatric Special Care Unit (SCU) at Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems (MCHHS) is an intimate, 10 bed unit in a critical access hospital setting. We are dedicated to maximizing senior citizens ability to function independently and significantly enhance their quality of life. Under special conditions, we may accept younger individuals of geriatric commonality.

Our main focus of care includes a diagnostic evaluation, solution focused treatment, individual and group therapy, behavioral coping strategies, medication evaluation and management, and post-care discharge planning. Each patient is also evaluated and monitored for medical conditions, which may be addressed and treated during the inpatient stay. Patients have full access to all services at MCHHS, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, dietary, medical imaging, laboratory and emergency services.

The SCU at MCHHS is operated by QUALITY HEALTH CARE OF BELOIT, LLC, a behavioral health management company that has been serving the behavioral health needs of elderly Kansans and Nebraskans since 2000.

Referrals are made by calling the unit directly. The Durable Power of Attorney or DPOA is a signed document that provides authority to another person to make financial and health care decisions on the patients' behalf and is required for admission. In addition to the DPOA, a most recent history and physical, labs drawn within 48 hours, copies of insurance cards and a signed letter of understanding (senior care facilities only) are required. Patients' from Nebraska are required to submit a signed MC-OBRA-8 to authorize the release of information. Completed forms can be faxed or scanned and emailed to a secure email address given upon request.
